Commercial vehicle accident lands 4 in hospital

Commercial vehicles like company box trucks, rental vans and delivery trucks pack a powerful punch. So, when they are involved in an accident with a passenger car, the results are usually devastating. Because of this, delivery truck drivers have a special duty to drive carefully, remain alert at all times and follow traffic laws fastidiously.

Unfortunately that’s not always the case. On May 12, a delivery truck accident involved three cars and left two people severely injured. The commercial truck slammed into an SUV on the highway as all traffic was slowing down in a congested area. The impact caused the SUV to rocket into another truck.

A passenger of the SUV was cut from the vehicle. She was rushed to a hospital for an emergency surgery. An elderly passenger was also transported to the hospital and is in serious condition. The delivery driver and the driver of the second truck that was hit were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

No comment was made as to whether the accident was caused by driver fatigue or intoxication.

This collision may not have happened in this state, but commercial vehicle crashes like this one happen all the time in Louisiana. They are treated differently than your average accident because there are several factors that could have influenced the accident. Improper or incomplete driver training, poorly maintained vehicles or bad hiring practices—like contracting someone with a history of accidents—can all have an effect on the question of liability.

If you feel like you’ve been the victim of a commercial vehicle, a Louisiana attorney may be able to help you get compensation for your pain and suffering.
