Louisiana man hits little girl while fleeing another accident

Any fatal accident is a tragedy. But hit-and-run accidents, especially when they’re caused by a drunk driver, are especially heinous. One Louisiana family is in immense pain today as they struggle to come to grips with the senseless loss of a loved one.

Their tragedy began in the early morning hours of June 27 when the 20-year-old driver of a pickup got into an accident on LA-24. Perhaps fearing the repercussions, he sped off. While fleeing the scene of that accident, he lost control of the truck, hit a ditch and then plowed into a family residence. The place where the truck impacted the house happened to be the bedroom of a 2-year-old girl. The truck pinned her against a wall and she was killed. Her parents were also hurt in the incident. The extent of their injuries, and how they incurred them, is unknown at this time, but they are listed in stable condition.

Police have launched an investigation and believe the man was inebriated. They are looking into his whereabouts before the accident as he is underage. He still had a wristband on, which was believed to have been from a bar where he may have been drinking.

Accidents like these underline the importance of having representation that can navigate insurance policies, coverage and claims in an effort to help you seek recompense. Yes, this man will face severe criminal penalties for his negligence and will, in all likelihood, spend a significant time in prison. While this will provide some small sense of relief for the family, it doesn’t help them monetarily.

When an accident like this takes the life of a loved one, you may find it impossible to work and earn a living or you may be facing a mountain of medical expenses. If that’s the case, a Louisiana attorney may be able to help you receive compensation for your damages.
