Woman pinned by taxi suffers multiple injuries

Riding in a taxi in New Orleans, as with almost any major city, can be a risk. Your driver could be tired, distracted or even inebriated and you have no control. There are regulations for cab drivers, but taxi accidents happen more often than you might think. In truth, you don’t even need to be riding in the taxi to be the victim of one, as a recent news story proved.

An elderly woman was out riding her bike on the streets of New York when a taxi cab hit her. The cab driver noticed that something was underneath his vehicle and was preparing to put his vehicle is reverse, an action that would have run the woman over. Two construction workers were drinking coffee when they saw the cab and the woman’s shoes sticking out from under it. They ran to the woman’s aid, one of them screaming at the taxi driver to not back up. After this stern warning, they sprang into action.

Recruiting several nearby construction workers and witnesses, they were able to lift the car up sufficiently to grab the woman and pull her to safety. An individual who came upon the accident was a doctor and attended the scene as well. Free from the crushing weight of the taxi, the woman’s injuries were apparent. She was rushed to a hospital and treated for multiple fractures, but was reported to be in stable condition.

If it weren’t for their heroism, the woman would almost certainly have been crushed and killed.

If you’ve been the victim of a taxi or any type of company vehicle mishap, you may be eligible for compensation. A Louisiana attorney can sit down with you and discuss your options.
