Louisiana head-on collision leave motorcyclist dead

Law enforcement officials report that an accident involving a motorcycle and a car in Jefferson Davis Parish during the night hours of Aug. 27 left the motorcyclist dead at the scene of the accident. An ambulance transported the injured driver to Lake Charles Hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the accident occurred on Louisiana Highway 383 when a 38-year-old Ville Platte man driving a 2003 Mercury Marquis southbound allegedly crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 54-year-old man driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound. Police report that they suspect the Mercury driver of driving while impaired, and charges are pending the results of a complete accident investigation.

When a motorcycle accident results in the death of the cyclist due to a possible drunk driver, the family may wish to utilize the services of a personal injury attorney to file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver. Families are most often left with unexpected expenses for funeral arrangements and potential medical bills. Filing a claim may help with those expenses, and it may also address such complaints such as pain and suffering and loss of a loved one.

Actions that include driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol, failing to maintain a proper lane, driving recklessly or at excessive speeds or even texting while driving can all be considered negligent behaviors. If any driver is proven to have acted in such a manner that led to the accident, he or she may be proven to be the liable party.
