A 45-year-old man was seriously injured in an August 21 accident on Interstate 10 in Metairie, according to authorities. The accident reportedly occurred at around 1 a.m.
That is when a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man hit the 45-year-old man's Chrysler 300, which in turn struck a dump truck. Authorities said that the 32-year-old man tried to flee the scene of the crash on foot but was apprehended near the City Park Avenue exit.
Reportedly, the 45-year-old man suffered a fractured jaw and a fractured skull among other injuries. Emergency personnel transported him to University Hospital, where his condition was ultimately upgraded from critical to guarded. Furthermore, his condition improved enough for medical personnel to take him out of the ICU, authorities reported. To help with the 45-year-old man's medical bills, his family is reportedly raffling off a wreath with a New Orleans Saints logo.
As this case exemplifies, accident-related injuries may leave victims and their families with costly medical bills. Those who suffer injuries in a car crash may be able to take legal action against the party at fault for the crash. For this reason, many accident victims retain the counsel and representation of a personal injury lawyer immediately following the incident. The attorney may file the requisite paperwork to initiate a claim. Moreover, the attorney may amass the evidence and resources necessary to prove to a civil court that the at-fault party should be held responsible for the accident and its consequent damages. Personal injury attorneys may also work to negotiate a settlement with the at-fault party's advocates, thereby resolving the case without going to trial.
