1 dead, 4 injured in Bossier City car collision

According to a representative with the Bossier City police department, a man was killed, and four others were injured in a two-car collision that happened on Oct. 31. The accident reportedly occurred in the intersection of Highway 71 and Sligo Road in Bossier City late at night.

Police reported that a 23-year-old man was driving west on Sligo Road while a 17-year-old girl was driving north on Highway 71, which is also known as Barksdale Road. Both were required to stop at the intersection. Police indicated they are not certain yet which vehicle failed to stop before entering the intersection.

Killed in the accident was the 23-year-old driver. His passengers, a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman from Bossier City as well as a 21-year-old Shreveport man, were all injured in the accident. The 17-year-old driver was also injured in the accident. The three passengers from the 23-year-old man's pickup truck were taken for treatment of their injuries to University Health Shreveport, and the 17-year-old girl was transported to Willis Knighton Pierremont in Shreveport. Authorities believe that alcohol use on the part of the 23-year-old man may have played a role in the accident. Their investigation is continuing at this time.

When people suffer injuries in a car crash caused by the negligent actions of another driver, the victims may be able to recover damages by filing civil lawsuits. In cases such as this one in which the negligent driver is killed in the accident, victims may still be able to recover from the driver's estate and insurance company. In cases in which both drivers were negligent, injured passengers may recover from both drivers proportionally according to the degree of negligence. Injured victims may benefit by speaking with a personal injury attorney. An attorney can provide advice and help to file civil complaints.
