Fiery head-on collision kills 3 in Louisiana

The Louisiana State Police have reported that three people lost their lives in a fiery head-on collision in Terrebonne Parish on Nov. 10. It is not known if alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident, and police are said to be awaiting the results of toxicology tests. However, excessive speed does appear to have played a part. The fatal car accident took place in Schriever at approximately 6:30 p.m.

According to an LSP representative, a 19-year-old Houma man was proceeding northbound at a high rate of speed on Louisiana 24 when he lost control of his pickup truck while attempting to negotiate a curve near St. George Road. The pickup truck subsequently crossed the median and overturned. The overturned vehicle was then struck by an oncoming pickup truck being driven by a 30-year-old Patterson man.

Responding state troopers report that both vehicles caught fire in the collision's aftermath. A representative of the Terrebonne Coroner's Office pronounced both drivers and a 54-year-old female passenger of the oncoming pickup truck dead at the scene.

People involved in head-on collisions might suffer catastrophic injuries, and if they are killed as a result, the families they leave behind may suffer great financial hardship. Monthly obligations may become unmanageable when the income of a family member is lost, and these problems might be compounded by unanticipated expenses such as funeral bills and medical costs. When the negligent driver responsible for causing the accident also loses his or her life, a family may file a wrongful death lawsuit against that driver's estate.
