Louisiana head-on crash causes injuries to 4

Three passengers in one vehicle and the driver of another were injured in a head-on collision on Dec. 27. It was not immediately known whether alcohol contributed to the crash, according to authorities. The accident closed a large section of Wax Road for approximately two hours.

Safety benefits of roundabouts

Arizona motorists may improve roadway safety by learning more about roundabouts, as described by the Federal Highway Administration. According to the FHWA, roundabouts may be considered alternative resource of highway initiatives that involve reconstruction or new construction. Roundabouts have also proven to be effective at providing safety improvements to intersections that already exist as well as high-speed rural intersection and interchange ramps terminals.

Feds eliminate unnecessary inspection reports for truckers

In a move that could mean safer roads for Louisiana drivers, the Department of Transportation has announced the end of an onerous paperwork requirement for the U.S. trucking industry. Effective Dec. 18, professional truck drivers will no longer have to file pre- and post-trip vehicular inspection reports when no violations are noted during inspection. According to the DOT, approximately 95 percent of all commercial truck inspections result in no safety or maintenance concerns.

Dutchtown High School student killed in alleged DWI accident

Louisiana State Police reported that a man who allegedly hit a car carrying high school students, killing one, has been charged with multiple criminal offenses including drunk driving. According to officers, the collision occurred on Dec. 9 around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 74 approximately one mile away from the high school.

Whiplash causes and effects

A fairly common injury in Louisiana and other areas of the United States, whiplash can result in a wide variety of symptoms, ranging from dizziness and fatigue to neck pain and visual disturbances. Although whiplash is typically not fatal, it can result in permanent and temporary disabilities. Due to lost productivity, litigation, disability, medical care and other consequences stemming from whiplash, it is considered a significant economic expense in the United States.

The dangers of alcohol-impaired driving

In Louisiana and other areas of the United States, impaired driving results in thousands of preventable deaths and injuries and many other societal costs. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has released a fact sheet showing the effects of intoxicated driving. The report also shows the demographics that are most likely to get behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.

Man killed when driver crosses centerline on LA 40

A Livingston Parish crash on Louisiana Highway 40 resulted in the death of a 39-year-old man. The Nov. 29 accident involved two vehicles, one of which crossed the highway's centerline immediately before the collision, according to officials.
