Louisiana woman killed in early morning collision

Around 5:45 a.m. on March 8, a 25-year-old Vacherie woman was killed at the intersection of LA Highways 3125 and 3213 in Gramercy. Her car was struck by a 24-year-old man who was uninjured in the crash.

The woman was heading eastbound, and the male driver was headed north. As they both approached the intersection, the male driver ran the red light and struck the female driver as her vehicle was crossing the intersection. The collision forced her car off the road and into a utility pole. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by authorities in a nearby wooded area a short time after the accident. He is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash and has been charged with negligent homicide, DWI, hit-and-run and other traffic violations. The woman is not suspected of being under the influence, but toxicology results are pending for both drivers.

In a situation where someone loses their life due to another person's negligence, the family members of the victim may want to consider pursuing a wrongful death suit. While a monetary award can not take the place of a lost loved one, it can help take care of expenses related to the accident as well as compensate the family for their emotional pain and suffering. If the decedent had dependents she was caring for, the court could award compensation to take care of their needs as well. Surviving family members may find it helpful to talk with an attorney who is familiar with wrongful death cases and car accidents. Not only can an attorney offer advice on pursing a suit, but they can also offer support and access to additional resources in a time of sorrow and confusion.
