1 killed, 4 injured in head-on collision

Louisiana State Police reported that one person was killed and four others were injured in a head-on car collision that occurred on Louisiana Route 86 on April 3. One of the five people who were killed was identified as the 65-year-old mayor of Loreauville, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved.

The crash took place at approximately 6:40 p.m. near Lake Teche Road. A Ford Mustang, of which the deceased mayor was a passenger in, was traveling west when a Dodge Ram crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The two vehicles collided. Authorities believed that the crash was caused by a juvenile who jerked the wheel of the Dodge as it was navigating a turn. Police did not believe that alcohol was a factor.

The 62-year-old driver of the Mustang was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were described as critical. The mayor reportedly died at the scene. Three passengers in the Dodge Ram suffered injuries that ranged from minor to moderate. Neither was reportedly wearing seat belts. Two of the Dodge's passengers, a 34-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, were cited for failing to wear their seat belts while the juvenile was cited for causing a driving obstruction.

When a person dies in a car crash, their family members are often left with economical and emotional damages, including expensive medical costs and sudden lost income. If it can be proven that another driver's recklessness caused the accident, an attorney may assist the remaining family members with filing a wrongful death claim against that driver. This claim may allow the family to recover the costs of the damages.
