Lousiana police seek hit-and-run driver who injured 3 cyclists

The Louisiana State Police are seeking the driver of a red pickup truck that was involved in a hit-and-run accident on May 4 that left three cyclists injured. The individual being sought is described as a Caucasian male with short dark colored hair and a goatee. Police say that the man is approximately 6 feet tall. The pickup truck involved may be a Nissan Frontier, and police say that the accident likely left it with significant damage to its front end.

According to a police report, the hit-and-run accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Nicholson Drive in Baton Rouge. The three cyclists were traveling southbound on Nicholson Drive and were struck by the pickup truck as they prepared to turn left onto GSRI Avenue. The three injured individuals were all experienced cyclists wearing bright colored clothing.

One of the cyclists struck by the pickup truck told responding police officers that the driver initially pulled over before leaving the scene a short time later. Two of the cyclists required hospital treatment, and they were transported by paramedics to an area medical facility. The most seriously injured cyclist is said to have suffered a fractured skull and a brain injury, but he is expected to recover. Witnesses to the accident or individuals who may be familiar with the pickup truck have been asked to contact their local police departments or Troop A of the Louisiana State Police.

Individuals may seek civil remedies when they are injured in an accident caused by negligent actions, but this is not possible if the identity of the party responsible is not known. However, a personal injury attorney may be able to help the victims of a hit-and-run accident seeking compensation from insurance coverage such as the uninsured motorist provision of their auto policy.
