1 dead, 1 injured in Louisiana motorcycle crash

On July 9, a motorcycle accident in Louisiana left one person killed and a second person with serious injuries. According to the State Police, the deceased man was a 21-year-old resident of St. Bernard Parish while the person who suffered injuries was reportedly an 18-year-old Chalmette resident.

The accident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. in Violet. The 18-year-old was reportedly driving a 2008 Honda motorcycle on Louisiana 46 when he struck a 2000 Dodge Ram that was attempting to make a left turn. The 18-year-old and his 21-year-old passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The two motorcycle riders were transported to a nearby hospital where the 21-year-old died from his injuries. The 18-year-old remained in critical condition.

State Police reported that neither of the two motorcyclists were wearing helmets and the motorcycle lights were not on when the accident occurred. It was not stated if the driver of the truck suffered any injuries, though it appeared that he voluntarily took a breath and blood test.

Motorcycle crashes can be severe enough to leave a person permanently disabled. If the accident was caused by the negligence of another driver, the injured victim may want to discuss with an attorney the advisability of filing a personal injury claim lawsuit against the responsible party. In such a civil action, the plaintiff could seek a variety of damages, including the costs of required medical care and treatment, lost wages resulting from an inability to return to work and other amounts that may be applicable.
