Louisiana man killed in head-on collision

A Louisiana man was killed in a head-on collision east of Kentwood on March 20. The accident occurred just after 7:30 p.m.

According to the Louisiana State Police, a 38-year-old man was driving a 2014 GMC Sierra west on LA 38 when he veered into eastbound traffic. A 59-year-old man driving a 1996 Dodge 3500 swerved onto the right shoulder of the road in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the GMC smashed into him head-on. The Dodge driver suffered severe injuries and was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where he later died. The GMC driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to North Oaks Medical Center.

Authorities said they do not yet know what caused the GMC driver to cross into oncoming traffic. Blood samples were taken from him and the decedent for drug and alcohol testing. The crash is still under investigation, and the results will be forwarded to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney's Office.

Police thoroughly investigate car crashes that cause injuries and/or deaths to determine who caused them. With the help of an attorney, victims injured in a car accident can use the results of the crash investigation and other evidence as the basis for a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault driver. A successful suit could bring an injured victim financial compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and other related damages. If a victim dies as the result of a car crash, the surviving family members may want to have the advice of counsel in determining whether a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the negligent motorist would be appropriate.
