High-speed accident kills 23-year-old woman

A New Orleans single-car crash on May 4 resulted in the death of one person. A 2015 Lamborghini was apparently speeding down Tchoupitoulas Street in an area prior to where the street intersects with Felicity, according to a police representative. The black Lamborghini veered right off the road, jumping the curb. It struck a flood wall where a woman passenger, aged 23, was killed.

According to law enforcement officials, the driver, aged 30, was transported to the hospital. Police did not say if he would be charged but that alcohol and blood testing was pending. Since charges had not been issued at the time of the initial news report, the driver was not identified.

Additional information was gleaned from tire tracks and remnants of the vehicle found at the accident site. Tracks showed the Lamborghini veered away from the road and then went over a curb before it impacted the flood wall. The car's shattered windshield was found in nearby shrubs.

When drivers fail to obey the rules of the road such as by speeding, they may be considered to be negligent even if no criminal charges were filed in an associated car crash. When someone is killed as a result of the driver's negligence, the surviving family members are sometimes left with overwhelming financial burdens that they have to face while they are grieving. An attorney for the family might suggest the filing of a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault motorist, seeking compensation for such things as funeral and burial expenses and, where the decedent was a breadwinner for the household, loss of contribution.
