Louisiana minor killed in accident

A minor was killed in a car accident that involved three vehicles near Franklinton on August 6. The minor victim, a 14-year-old Folsom girl, was the only person involved who was not properly restrained with a seat belt at the time of the crash.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash took place just after 11:00 a.m. when a 25-year-old Folsom woman attempted to pass an SUV driven by a 42-year-old Franklinton woman in a no-passing zone on eastbound Highway 10. The Folsom woman, who also had three minor passengers with her, then collided with a westbound SUV that was driven by a 38-year-old Bogalusa man. The car's left rear passenger, the 14-year-old, was declared dead at the scene. The two other minor passengers in the car were not injured. Two other minors who were passengers in the first SUV and both of the SUVs' drivers suffered minor injuries in the car crash.

All three drivers were administered and passed breath tests, so police do not believe alcohol consumption was involved. The Folsom woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license, passing in a no passing zone, and negligent homicide. She also had an outstanding warrant for theft from the Kenner Police Department. Police are continuing with the investigation.

In cases such as this, the injured victims and the families of any deceased victims might choose to file personal injury or wrongful death claims to seek damages from the liable driver. If the lawsuit is successful, the victims could receive compensation for economic and non-economic damages.
