Intersections and car accidents

Car accidents are a reality for many motorists. Whether involved in them or a witness to them as they drive by, there is no denying how inconvenient, jarring and potentially life-altering motor vehicle accidents can be. They can occur anywhere at any time, especially at intersections.

Accidents that happen at intersections often involve multiple vehicles. There is so much going on where roads meet that some motorists are unable to avoid crashing into other drivers, sometimes pedestrians, too. Not following the rules of the road and driving irresponsibly, recklessly and impaired are contributing factors and can mean the difference between life or death in serious car collisions.

Many accidents that occur at intersections involve rear-end collisions. Determining who is at fault is not always easy. As a motorist, it is your responsibility to be aware of what is going on with your vehicle and the cars and trucks around you. Though you cannot control another motorist’s actions, you must avoid distractions and remain focused on operating your vehicle safely.

Injuries sustained in car intersections often result in serious injuries. This is because traffic flows in different directions, and many drivers engage in distracting behaviors, tailgating, rushing to make it through yellow and red lights and negligence. It is important for you to keep an eye out for reckless, inexperienced, distracted and impaired motorists so you can steer clear of them.

When approaching intersections, reduce your speed a little and approach them cautiously. Do not speed, and follow all traffic laws. You never know when another motorist is planning to blow through a red road light. You also should monitor road and weather conditions. If you do not have to be on the roads, stay home. If you must travel, consider alternative transportation or carpooling. Even if you are a safe driver, it is not possible to avoid every potential driving hazard, but you can avoid most.
