When you’re visiting another city and use a taxi, you normally take for granted that the driver is safe and will follow the rules of the road. After all that’s how they make a living. But sometimes, in an effort to hurry or just out of pure negligence, drivers cut corners or try to flout the rules and accidents happen. While there are regulations governing cab drivers, there’s no guarantee that your driver isn’t fatigued or under the influence of a substance.
A taxi passenger finds himself in critical condition following a major cab crash. According to witnesses, the taxi ignored the red light and plowed into an ambulance that was legally crossing the intersection. The collision made both vehicles fly into a concrete median. The passenger was rushed to a hospital. The ambulance driver’s leg was injured in the wreck and the driver of the cab had various bruises and cuts. They were both transported to the same hospital and their condition has been stable.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing. There’s was no indication whether the driver of the taxi was inebriated or distracted when he failed to stop for the red light.
Though it didn’t happen in Louisiana, taxi accidents like these do occur here all the time. When they do, taxi companies might be reticent to admit fault and insurance companies can be difficult to deal with, so sometimes it’s necessary to use the civil courts to get justice.
If that’s the case, a Louisiana attorney can do his or her own investigation of the crash and may be able to help you get compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
