A 49-year-old Louisiana woman is dead after a tragic accident that happened June 30. A pickup truck was headed west on Highway 821 in Louisiana when, for reasons that are still under investigation, the driver ran through a stop sign and slammed into the woman’s Ford Taurus before striking a Chevy truck that was parked in a parking lot near the intersection.
The driver of the Ford truck did not suffer any injuries in the car crash. When Lincoln Parish authorities arrived on the scene, they pronounced the woman in the Taurus dead. A passenger in the Taurus suffered injuries as well and was transported to a hospital for treatment. A passenger in the Chevy that was hit in the parking lot had minor injuries.
Police are reporting that they don’t believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the wreck. Following standard procedure, officials took toxicology samples to be analyzed.
While this wreck is still under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving remains a major problem in Louisiana, as it does in the rest of the country. One split second of glancing at the phone might seem like an innocent thing to do, but all it takes is a second to lose control and ruin a life forever.
If you suspect you were the victim in a distracted driving incident, a Louisiana attorney may be able to help. He or she may be able to conduct an investigation using the latest in crash reconstruction techniques to determine who is at fault. If negligence on the part of the other driver can be proven, you might be entitled to compensation for pain and suffering, lost wages and medical expenses.
