Being involved in a motor-vehicle accident is not a pleasant experience. At the very least, you may be shaken up and have to worry about the cost of repairs to your vehicles. In some cases you may suffer physical harm, ranging from minor scrapes to life-changing injuries. Worse still, someone you care about could lose their life as a result of such an accident.
Often, it is possible to seek some form of compensation or at least an insurance payout in the event of such an incident. However, this is made far more difficult if one of the drivers involved leaves the scene. In Louisiana, a 22-year-old man lost his life in an alleged hit-and-run accident near Kentwood.
The young man was riding a four-wheeler all-terrain vehicle within a drainage ditch. Unfortunately, his vehicle flipped over after hitting a culvert. The young man was cast from the vehicle onto one of the lanes of the highway. Although his companion, who had also been riding a four-wheeler, attempted to alert an oncoming driver to the situation, it was in vain.
The victim was allegedly run over by the car and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators hope that the car’s driver will come forward. They admit that the driver may have been unaware of what had transpired.
Sadly, accidents of this nature are not uncommon. If you have been caught in a hit-and-run accident, you may be wondering what to do next. However, all is not lost. An attorney can help you pursue a fair payout from your insurance company, even if you are unable to obtain the details of the other driver.
