Woman breaks multiple bones in accident on Louisiana causeway

On Behalf of | Sep 29, 2014 | Car Accidents |

A Sept. 24 accident on Lake Pontchartrain Causeway seriously injured one person, according to authorities. The accident occurred around noon near Mandeville shoreline, reportedly.

Authorities reported that a 53-year-old woman was driving south on the causeway when she struck a pickup truck that was unmoving and in disrepair in the right lane, its 28-year-old male driver sitting inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. Consequently, he received emergency transport to Lakeview Regional Medical Center. Officials there reportedly treated and released the man.

The 53-year-old driver of the car suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash, and she reportedly needed to be extricated from her vehicle before emergency crews could airlift her to University Hospital in New Orleans. Reportedly the woman suffered multiple lacerations, a broken arm and two broken legs.

Drivers may be held accountable for a car crash if the incident resulted in injuries and there is significant evidence causally linking the accident to their actionable behavior, such as reckless or negligent driving. This may leave at-fault drivers liable for large sums of money in damages; for, people who suffer accident-related injuries must often cope with not merely physical repercussions but also financial ramifications, including hospital bills and lost wages.

For this reason, many accident victims seek the counsel and representation of a personal injury lawyer immediately following the event. Besides helping accident victims file the requisite paperwork to initiate a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver, the lawyer may help materialize a sound case, marshaling together the resources and evidence necessary to show a civil court that the at-fault driver should be held responsible for the incident and its economic damages.
