Woman involved in crash with ambulance sues Louisiana hospital

| Sep 12, 2014 | Car Accidents |

On July 25, 2013, a woman says that she was driving her car in Gretna when, at the intersection of LA 611-4 and U.S. Highway 90, an ambulance from East Jefferson General Hospital struck her car. On July 22, 2014, the woman filed a lawsuit seeking damages in an unspecified amount for loss of the use of her vehicle, storage fees, property damage, medical expenses, mental anguish, and pain and suffering.

The woman’s lawsuit was filed in the 24th Judicial District Court against the ambulance driver, the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and East Jefferson General Hospital. The suit accuses the ambulance driver of failing to maintain proper control of the vehicle, operating the ambulance in a careless manner and failing to apply the brakes properly.

In addition to those damages, the woman also says that the driver failed to see what should have been seen or heard, exercise caution, exercise due care or reasonable vigilance, obey emergency vehicle rules, take steps to avoid the accident and come to a stop at the light. If someone suffers injuries in an accident thought to be the result of someone else’s negligent act, the victim, like this woman, could consider seeking financial compensation from the negligent party.

Someone who is involved in a car crash can end up suddenly having to deal with mounting hospital bills and the cost of vehicle repairs while attempting to recover. A personal injury attorney could provide information on filing a lawsuit to seek financial compensation and substantiate the claim with accident scene investigative reports, any traffic camera footage and any other available evidence.
