Hit-and-run driver injures three bicyclists in Louisiana

On Behalf of | May 6, 2015 | Hit-and-Run Accidents |

Three bicyclists were injured when a pickup truck struck them in Baton Rouge on May 4. The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. on Nicholson Drive just north of GSRI Avenue.

The male bicyclists, who were participating in a weekly event called “Monday Metro Madness,” were waiting to turn left from the southbound lane of Nicholson Drive when a red Nissan Frontier pickup truck hit them from behind. After the impact, one of the bike riders jumped from the pavement and pounded on the Nissan’s windshield, demanding that the driver pull over. The driver parked his vehicle for a few minutes and then quietly fled the scene once emergency crews arrived.

Two of the bicyclists suffered minor injuries from the accident. The third man was hospitalized with serious injuries, including a skull fracture and a minor brain injury. Police are still searching for the hit-and-run driver, who is described as a white male with dark hair and a goatee. They said the suspect’s Nissan is likely to have front-end damage.

Any bicyclist injured in a hit-and-run crash may wish to consult with an attorney to determine what remedies may be available. Bike riders who are struck by motor vehicles often suffer severe injuries that can require months of recovery time or cause a permanent disability. Even injuries that initially appear minor can cause chronic medical issues in the future. With the help of a lawyer, an injured victim could file a personal injury lawsuit once the responsible driver has been located. Damages could include the cost of medical care and compensation for any wages lost due to an inability to return to work.
