Driver involved in Louisiana accident charged

On Behalf of | Aug 31, 2015 | Truck Accidents |

On Aug. 25, the driver of a passenger vehicle reportedly collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 10 in Louisiana. According to the Louisiana State Police, the crash took place at milepost 131 at the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge and LA 3177 intersection in Butte LaRose.

It was not stated in the report how the accident actually happened. However, the passenger vehicle driver, who was not identified, would ultimately be charged with careless operation after being released from a nearby hospital. In the state, all drivers are responsible for driving in a safe manner when on public roads; if they drive in such a way that a person’s life, limbs or property is in danger, the driver could be charged with careless operation.

Car accidents can have a number of different causes. In some cases, they can be caused by a driver who is operating their vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In others, they may be distracted by their phone or the radio. Some drivers just fail to pay attention to the traffic in front of them or drive too fast for road conditions. If the driver was not driving safely, he or she could potentially face criminal charges.

In addition to facing criminal charges, those who were injured in a tractor-trailer accident that was caused by the other driver could have the grounds to file a personal injury lawsuit. Depending on the evidence available and the case circumstances, an attorney may help that person file a lawsuit against the unsafe driver. This route can also help the person seek compensation for the damages that they sustained in the event the criminal charges are dismissed or are reduced.
