Louisiana parents may have seen the reports of a Houston school bus that was involved in a fatal crash on Sept. 15, leaving two students dead and three others with serious injuries. The bus fell off an overpass, landing on the South Loop of Interstate 610.
The bus was headed to Furr High School in Houston when the crash occurred at about 7 a.m. The bus was traveling east when another vehicle cut off a Buick LeSabre. In an attempt to avoid an accident, the LeSabre veered, crashing into the bus. The driver of the bus overcorrected the vehicle following the collision, causing it to jump the guardrail on the side of the highway.
One of the deceased students, a 17-year-old junior, was pronounced dead by emergency personnel immediately following the crash. The other student, a 14-year-old freshman, died after being transported to a nearby hospital. Two other students and the bus driver were treated for serious injuries at a hospital. Authorities reportedly interviewed the driver of the LeSabre, though charges were not filed at that time. The report did not indicate if the other vehicle involved was identified.
