3 die after driver loses control of vehicle on Interstate 10

| Nov 18, 2015 | Car Accidents |

The Louisiana State Police responded to an accident involving a single vehicle in Sorrento on Nov. 7 that killed three out of the four people in the car. The wreck occurred at 8:30 p.m. at mile marker 189 on Interstate 10, and the investigators are not yet sure what caused the crash.

A 2003 Saturn L200 headed west on I-10 when the female driver ran off the right side of the road after losing control of the vehicle, and the Saturn hit multiple trees before flipping over and landing on its roof in a canal where it was partially submerged. The State Police Crime Lab will conduct a routine toxicology test to see if the 18-year-old driver, who is from New Orleans, was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the accident took place.

The other people in the vehicle were a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old man from New Orleans and an 18-year-old man from Bridge City, and these three passengers were declared dead at the crash site. The driver managed to escape and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital after suffering moderate injuries, and troopers are still investigating this accident.

When a fatal car accident occurs, the decedent’s surviving family members are often forced to deal with sudden and severe financial consequences in addition to their grief over suddenly losing a loved one. In many cases, the person who was killed was the family breadwinner. Those who are in such a position may want to discuss with an attorney the advisability of seeking compensation through a wrongful death lawsuit if it has been determined that the accident was due to another person’s negligence.
