Bus accident involving college students

On Behalf of | Nov 4, 2015 | Bus Accidents |

Louisiana drivers should be particularly alert for buses, whether of the school variety or others, as a fatal accident in Pennsylvania involving a Lehigh University bus that was transporting members of the school’s rowing teams demonstrates. None of the occupants of the bus were severely injured, but the crash left one person dead and the bus on its roof in the aftermath, as well as students being taken to three area hospitals for treatment and injury evaluation.

Initial reports did not state what caused the accident or how the bus and passenger vehicle came to collide. The crash occurred on Route 22, close to the Lehigh County line. Preliminary reports from Lehigh University’s Twitter account stated only that the students were being evaluated and that none of them were known to have serious injuries.

The bus was carrying 20 students from the university’s men’s’ and women’s rowing teams. All that was immediately known about the one fatality in the accident was that the victim was not a Lehigh University student, as per a press release from the university in the wake of the incident. Drivers should always exercise special caution around buses and other large vehicles, due to the larger mass and altered visibility areas operators have.

Although it is unclear what the causes of the accident were in this case, motorists and pedestrians alike need to be cognizant of larger vehicles on the road at all times. A person who has been injured in a bus accident may want to speak with a personal injury attorney to determine the recourse that may be available. Legal counsel can review the police investigation report as well as the maintenance logs for the bus in order to determine the party or parties that should be held responsible for the medical expenses, lost wages and other damages that the injured victim has incurred.
