Motorists in Louisiana may have been affected by a truck accident that occurred nearby the Mississippi state line. The accident occurred on the night of Nov. 3, on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash involved two 18-wheelers and another vehicle. One of the trucks veered off of the road after the collision and fell into the Pearl River. I-10 remained closed all night until the eastbound lanes were opened at 6:30 a.m. the next morning.
The divers and rescue response team did not recover the trucker’s body from the Pearl River until 8 a.m. The trucker inside the submerged 18-wheeler was the only confirmed fatality. Local authorities say that there were no injuries reported from the accident.
Investigators believe that a motorist in a black pickup truck may actually be responsible for causing the accident that led to the two 18-wheelers colliding. The theory was based on the preliminary investigation that involved taking witness statements, as well as collecting evidence from the scene and from the vehicles involved in the crash. Police say that one of the contributing factors in causing the collision was lack of visibility, due to the dense fog and poor lighting near the state border.
People who have been injured in a truck accident will often sustain serious injuries that require expensive medical care and treatment. In many instances, their financial situation is worsened due to the loss of wages resulting from an inability to return to work. A personal injury attorney may be able to demonstrate, through a review of the official accident investigation report and other evidence, that the negligence of another motorist was the cause of the accident. In such event, the attorney may recommend filing a lawsuit against the at-fault driver seeking compensation for the losses that were sustained.
