Wrong-way driver among those killed in fatal crash

On Behalf of | Jan 7, 2016 | Car Accidents |

Motorists and their passengers who have been seriously injured in accidents on Louisiana roadways may have heard about a horrific crash in South Florida. According to news sources, five vehicles were involved in a wrong-way collision that claimed the lives of five people on Dec. 30. Reports indicate that two additional people were transported to area hospitals for treatment in connection with the deadly incident.

The accident took place on Interstate 95 in northern Miami-Dade County near the Miami Gardens Drive exit. Following the incident, all northbound lanes of the expressway remained closed for a period of time while investigators worked the scene.

Few details regarding the fatal chain of events have been released. According to sources, a woman was driving a pickup truck southbound in the northbound lanes when the accident occurred. After sideswiping one vehicle, the pickup collided head-on with a sedan, killing all four of that vehicle’s occupants and causing two of them to be ejected. The driver of the pickup was the fifth fatality.

Although liability may not yet have been established in this case, Louisiana residents who find themselves injured under similar circumstances may be interested in knowing that they might be able to pursue financial compensation from a responsible motorist’s estate in the event that the negligent driver did not survive the fatal motor vehicle crash. In this situation, a personal injury attorney could negotiate with the decedent’s insurers for a fair settlement or seek damages in a personal injury lawsuit filed against the estate of the negligent motor vehicle driver who died in the automobile accident.
