A man was killed after he lost control of his vehicle at about 9:30 a.m. on March 18. He was traveling west on Interstate 10 in Slidell when he lost control of his 2004 Mercedes. The car then crossed a center median and spun into eastbound lanes where the vehicle was hit by a Jeep.

The Jeep was driven by a 22-year-old Florida women who suffered moderate injuries in the accident. She was taken to Oschner Medical Center Northshore while the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Although police say that impairment was not believed to be the cause of the crash, an investigation was ongoing. Blood samples were taken from both drivers as part of that investigation and sent to the Louisiana State Crime Lab for analysis.

A person who is hurt in a car crash caused by the negligence of another motorist, such as one who was distracted by a cellphone or who was impaired. may want to seek compensation from the at-fault party, and the family members of those killed in a crash may be able to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. An attorney can often be of assistance in this regard.

Compensation may be available to help pay for medical bills, lost wages and lost future earnings in a personal injury case. Certain types of damages can be sought in a wrongful death lawsuit in addition to funeral and burial expenses. In the event that the negligent driver was killed in the accident, the lawsuits could proceed against such motorist’s estate or personal representative.
