3 Louisiana men die in head-on crash

On Behalf of | Apr 25, 2016 | Car Accidents |

Three men were killed in an accident on Louisiana 182 on April 20. According to the Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in Houma near Cocteau Road.

Authorities said a 1995 Honda Civic was traveling west on Louisiana 182 when it veered across the center line into eastbound traffic and hit an oncoming 2016 Ford F-150 head on. The Civic then smashed into an eastbound tractor-trailer. All three occupants of the Civic were thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as a 22-year-old Folsom man, a 29-year-old Abita Springs man and a 31-year-old Metairie man. None of the victims were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the Ford F-150, a 41-year-old Houma woman, and the driver of the tractor-trailer, a 42-year-old man from Arkansas, suffered minor injuries. It is not yet known why the Civic crossed into oncoming traffic. Toxicology samples have been sent to the lab to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.

Louisiana residents who have been injured in a car crash caused by a negligent party, such as a drunk driver, may benefit by speaking with an attorney about their legal options, as might the surviving family members of those who are killed in such an accident. If the driver whose negligence caused the wreck also died, a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for the losses that have been sustained could name the motorist’s estate or personal representative as a defendant. Damages that are sought could include funeral and burial expenses as well as other amounts.
