Louisiana accident sends car over causeway

On Behalf of | Aug 16, 2016 | Car Accidents |

An accident on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway sent one vehicle off of the road and into the water below. The incident happened on Aug. 8 at around 8:15 a.m. in the southbound lane near mile marker 11.

Law enforcement officers report that the crash happened between two trucks, a Toyota Tundra and a Ford F-150. The force of the collision caused the Ford to go over the side and land in the water. The driver of the Ford was rescued by emergency personnel about 10 minutes after the accident occurred.

The Ford’s driver was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital in order to be medically evaluated. Police said that the driver’s quick thinking along with the fast response of the rescue personnel helped to prevent a fatal accident. They indicated that the rescue team was on site within 5 minutes of the accident. When they arrived, the man had already managed to free himself from his truck and was outside of it. The southbound lanes were closed while officers worked to recover the truck from the lake. The reports do not indicate what caused the accident.

If a person suffers from catastrophic injuries in an accident caused by another driver, he or she might be able to recover damages by filing a personal injury lawsuit against the negligent driver. A personal injury attorney may work to recover the maximum amount possible through negotiating with the insurance company or litigating the matter through trial if a fair settlement offer is not extended.
