When and where most car accidents occur

On Behalf of | Jan 22, 2019 | Uncategorized |

Unfortunately, there is no way to completely prevent car crashes. There is always a possibility that you may get into a collision while driving, but there are also certain times and places that make you more vulnerable.

Once you learn when and where motor vehicle accidents are more likely to occur, you can avoid these situations to stay safer. Here is what the data shows.

Most dangerous hours

Generally, when more vehicles are out and about, there is a higher chance of accidents. Plus, low visibility is a major factor in a lot of crashes. Therefore, it makes sense that 31 percent of deadly wrecks happen between 6 p.m. and 12 a.m. Additionally, 16 percent of deadly crashes occur from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., commonly known as “rush hour.”

Close to home

If someone were to ask you if you were more likely to get into an accident in your neighborhood or on a road trip, you may say the road trip. However, research finds that most crashes happen within 25 miles of wherever you call home. This is due to a variety of factors. Of course, you mostly drive within a close radius of your home, so the statistical probability makes sense. However, a feeling of familiarity and relaxation while driving close to home also plays a role. It is important to be alert even when you are in a familiar area.

Rural roads

As a Louisiana driver, you are no stranger to rural roads. You may assume these areas are safer than crowded city streets. However, more deadly crashes occur on country roads than in urban areas. Next time you feel safe because you are in the middle of nowhere, remember to keep an eye out for hazards and other motorists.

States

Thankfully, Louisiana does not top the list when it comes to fatal accidents. The states that experience the most are Texas, California and Florida.
